I so appreciate the reminder of Jesus as friend - companion and equal in the relationship - both loved and loving, respected and respectful, and most of all embracing and understanding as friends are with such deep connections.

Interesting insight - we always see the familial connection being drawn (God as Father), but not so often the friend scenario. This is understandable (for the reasons you discuss), but I think you've also shown what we miss out on by focusing so much on values that emerge based on how our society is organized.

What a wonderful post. "Friendship is the only human relationship that exists for its own sake" - great words that brought a smile to my face.

I too keep in touch with my "other" country - also by listening to the BBC! Thank goodness for the internet :)
